I am directed by Mr.Secretary Ormsby Gore to

acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the

25th March F.2902/279/10 forwarding a copy of a

telegram from His Majesty's Ambassador in China

regarding preparations which are being made by the

Chinese authorities to destroy the property of the

Canton Kowloon Railway in case of emergency.

2. I am to request you to inform Viscount Halifax

that, subject to any local considerations on which

the Governor of liong kong may wish to offer observations

the Secretary of State sees no objection to

His Majesty's Consul General at Canton entering into

discussions with the local Chinese authorities with a

view to effecting arrangements by which, in case of

emergency, as much as possible of the rolling stock
